Editorial methodology

How we choose what to list, what the numbers mean, and what we will not claim.

What gets listed

We include bags and accessories that are identifiable products sold on Amazon.ca, from established brands and sellers, across a range of sizes and budgets. Being listed is not an endorsement. Brands cannot pay for placement.

Where specifications come from

Dimensions, weights, capacity and features are as listed by the manufacturer. We do not measure bags ourselves. When we are not confident of a number, we leave it blank and say “not listed” instead of guessing. When we have to estimate, we round up, so a “fits” result is conservative. Every figure should be re-checked on the Amazon.ca listing before purchase, because sellers update variants.

How “fit” is calculated

  1. Take the bag’s three listed sides and sort them from smallest to largest.
  2. Take the airline’s three limit sides and sort them the same way.
  3. Compare side to side. If any bag side is larger than its partner, the result is Over the limit.
  4. If it fits, check the margin on the tightest side, the bag type and the airline’s source confidence. A thin margin, a soft or expandable bag, or an airline with disagreeing sources produces Check first.
  5. Only if the margin is comfortable and the airline’s sources agree is the result Fits listed limit.

Because the sizes sorted this way ignore orientation, they match how a gate sizer works. A weight limit is compared with the bag’s empty weight only, since we cannot know what you pack.

Airline source confidence

For each airline we cross-check published guides and record how well they agree:

  • Sources agree Two or more independent sources agreed when we reviewed.
  • Check first Sources broadly agree, or the rule changed recently.
  • Sources conflict Sources conflict; we show only the figures we are reasonably sure of.

None of this replaces the airline’s current rules or the allowance shown in your booking, which are the final word. Every airline page is dated so you can see when our figures were reviewed.

Price estimates and what we do not publish

Every product card shows a rounded editorial price range in the currency of its linked Amazon marketplace. These are rough shopping guides, not live offers. The linked product page has the current price.

  • Live prices, discounts or stock status, which change constantly.
  • Star ratings or review counts.
  • “Tested by us” claims, unless a page explicitly describes real testing.

Affiliate links and independence

Amazon buttons open direct product pages on the marketplace named on each button. Some links may earn us a commission. Commission does not influence which products are listed or how we describe them. See the affiliate disclosure.

Updates and corrections

Each guide shows when it was last updated, and airline pages show the review date. If you spot an error, contact us. We correct the source data and note significant changes.
